2. Signature Programme Details

2.1 Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI)

The BSc in Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI), launched in 2009 as Hong Kong's first undergraduate degree combining risk management and business intelligence, is jointly supported by the School of Business and Management, the School of Engineering, and the School of Science.

The curriculum comprises four major pillars: RMBI Integration, Finance, Investment and Accounting, Risk Assessment and Modelling, and Business Intelligence Tools and Technologies. An academic option in FinTech is also available for students wishing to deepen their knowledge in financial technology.

A "4+1" dual-degree articulation pathway (BSc RMBI + MSc FinTech) enables outstanding RMBI students to earn both the bachelor's degree and a Master of Science in FinTech within five years, with savings of up to 40% on the master's tuition fees.

2.2 Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT) / Integrative Systems and Design (ISD)

The BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT) is run by the Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD), which was established in 2017 under the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS). Features include:

2.3 Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP)

The BEng/BSc & BBA Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) is Hong Kong's first dual-degree undergraduate programme; its JUPAS code is JS5901. It spans five years and leads to two awards: a Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science (with an engineering or science major) and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).

Engineering options include Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Decision Analytics, Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, and Mechanical Engineering; science options include Biotechnology and Integrative Systems and Design.

Only 35 students are admitted each year, and attendance at an interview is compulsory. It is one of the most fiercely contested undergraduate programmes at HKUST.

2.4 Ocean Science and Technology (OST)

The BSc in Ocean Science and Technology (OST) is run by the Department of Ocean Science and was Hong Kong's first undergraduate degree programme in ocean science and technology. It is structured around three core strands — marine ecology, oceanography, and ocean technology — and students may opt for an Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence. HKUST is the only Hong Kong university with on-campus marine research facilities (the Ocean Research Facility, OCRF), allowing OST students to conduct field work using the waterfront research platform adjacent to Clear Water Bay.
